Tiene una simetr\u00eda trigonal y los primeros ejemplares fueron descubiertos en las pegmatitas gran\u00edticas de la provincia de Fianarantsoa en el sur de Madagascar en el a\u00f1o 2002.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Pezzotta\u00edta fue nombrado as\u00ed en honor al joven mineralogista italiano, Federico Pezzotta, ahora comisario de mineralog\u00eda en el Museo Civico di Storia Naturale en Mil\u00e1n.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\">Pezzotta\u00edta tiene una dureza similar al berilo, 8 en la escala de Mohs. Sin embargo, su gravedad espec\u00edfica (3,10) y el \u00edndice de refracci\u00f3n (1,601-1,620) son a la vez superior a la del berilo. Los peque\u00f1os cristales variaban en color, de naranja-rojo a rosado o rojo frambuesa.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Pezzotta\u00edta debe su color a centros de color inducidos por la radiaci\u00f3n que implican al manganeso trivalente.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Pezzotta\u00edta perder\u00e1 su color si se calienta a 450\u00b0C durante dos horas, pero el color puede ser restaurado con irradiaci\u00f3n gamma.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\">Frente a las muestras del nuevo mineral se pens\u00f3 primero que era berilo rojo (bixbita) o una variedad de berilo rica en cesio. Pero a diferencia de los tipos de berilo, este nuevo mineral contiene litio y adem\u00e1s, este cristaliza en el sistema trigonal, a diferencia del berilo, que tiene cristales hexagonales.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\">Tanto el berilo rojo (bixbita) y Pezzotta\u00edta son gemas muy raras. Pero el berilo rojo es el m\u00e1s valioso de los dos, probablemente debido a su color m\u00e1s altamente saturado. It has trigonal symmetry and the first specimens were discovered in the granitic pegmatites of the Fianarantsoa province in southern Madagascar in 2002.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Pezzottaite was named after the young Italian mineralogist, Federico Pezzotta, now curator of mineralogy at the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale in Milan.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\">Pezzottaite has a hardness similar to beryl 8 on the Mohs scale. However, its specific gravity (3.10) and refractive index (1.601-1.620) are  both higher than that of beryl. The small crystals ranged in color from orange-red to pink or raspberry red.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Pezzottaite owes its color to radiation-induced color centers involving trivalent manganese.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Pezzottaite will lose its color if heated at 450\u00b0C for two hours, but the color can be restored with gamma irradiation.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\">In front of the samples of the new mineral, it was first thought that it was red beryl (bixbite) or a variety of beryl rich in cesium. But unlike the types of beryl, this new mineral contains lithium and furthermore, it crystallizes in the trigonal system, unlike beryl, which has hexagonal crystals.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\">Both red beryl (bixbite) and Pezzottaite are very rare gems. But red beryl is the more valuable of the two, probably due to its more highly saturated color. Apparently some specimens of Pezzottaite have been offered on the market as red beryl, perhaps out of ignorance or perhaps with a fraudulent motive.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Buyers of red beryl should take care that the specimens have been certified by a recognized gemological laboratory.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Although recently discovered and not yet widely marketed, clean specimens can be carved and used as a gem in jewelry.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Most Pezzottaite specimens from Madagascar are heavily included and gems rarely exceed 1 carat. However, a new deposit has been found in Afghanistan.
