Pero un gem\u00f3logo, Yianni Melas, pens\u00f3 de manera diferente. Aunque las variedades de calcedonia como la crisoprasa y la s\u00edlice gema son bien conocidas y se presentan en colores verde amarillento y azul verdoso, el color de este material era claramente diferente de cualquier calcedonia africana examinada por el GIA hasta la fecha.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Desde una perspectiva gemol\u00f3gica, era importante determinar de manera concluyente que este material estaba te\u00f1ido de forma natural y no artificial <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Para caracterizar esta calcedonia se utiliz\u00f3 el examen microsc\u00f3pico de piedras en bruto y talladas.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>-Los cristales de cuarzo presentes en este material eran m\u00e1s incoloros que marrones, descartamos la irradiaci\u00f3n como posible tratamiento. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>-Las pruebas gemol\u00f3gicas revelaron un RI de 1,531 a 1,539, sin birrefringencia observable y un SG, medido hidrost\u00e1ticamente, de entre 2,55 y 2,57. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>-Un espectroscopio de mano revel\u00f3 l\u00edneas tenues y estrechas en el extremo rojo del espectro, en lugar de la absorci\u00f3n de banda ancha que uno esperar\u00eda si el material hubiera sido te\u00f1ido con un pigmento org\u00e1nico. No more precise location is available.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">When this material was discovered, most people thought it was opal, chrysoprase, or chrysocolla. But a gemologist, Yianni Melas, thought differently. He sent samples to GIA, and these bluish-green stones were determined to be a completely new type of chalcedony. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">This new gem was named \u00abAquaprase\u00bb &#8211; \u00abaqua\u00bb for the blue sea and \u00abprase\u00bb for the green color.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">The translucent material showed a vibrant teal color. Although varieties of chalcedony such as chrysoprase and gem silica are well known and come in yellowish-green and blue-green colors, the color of this material was clearly different from any African chalcedony examined by the GIA to date.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">From a gemological perspective, it was important to conclusively determine that this colour material was natural and not artificial.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">To characterize this chalcedony, the microscopic examination of rough and carved stones was used.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>-The quartz crystals present in this material were more colorless than brown, we ruled out irradiation as a possible treatment.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>-Gemological tests revealed an IR of 1,531 to 1,539, with no observable birefringence anda SG, measured hydrostatically, between 2.55 and 2.57.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>-A handheld spectroscope will see faint, narrow lines at the red end of the spectrum, rather than the broadband absorption one would expect if the material had been stained with an organic pigment.All these characteristics were compatible with the natural colored chalcedony.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">A waxy shine is performed on fractured areas, consistent with added material.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">Dark brown and black inclusions of various scattered metal oxides were also observed in most of the samples examined, along with some areas of whitish and cloudy inclusions that were not identified.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u25ab\ufe0f\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tcd\/1\/16\/25ab.png\">The trace metallic elements that could be responsible for the bluish-green color are chromium, nickel, iron, vanadium, and copper in one of the cut samples, but these elements could not be related to color, as other bluish-green samples did not contain
